Who is this Däv guy?

Yes, it's pronounced just like Dave ...

I grew up in Toronto, Ontario Canada, the youngest of a musically talented family, yet the only one to pursue a career in entertainment.  I attended college for Sound Engineering and Music Production.  The facilitator of Music Production, hired me to play guitar and sing backups on demos for Marianne Faithful.

One day in the Toronto studio while working on Marianne's demos, I was asked to go to studio B to read some voice over scripts for a couple commercials. The voice actor they hired called the voice-over director saying he couldn't make it in.  Long story short, I was hired, subbing in for the other Toronto voiceover artist for two radio commercials, one for Dairy Queen and one for Harvey's!  Talk about being in the right place at the right time!  They paid me a few hundred bucks, which at that time, I thought was amazing.  At that time in my life though, I was only focused on music and I didn't think much more of becoming a Voice Actor.  Hey it was the 80's, I was young, and the music world was exploding on Much Music and MTV.

After college, during the day I worked in music and record stores. Nights and weekends I performed in cover bands around the Greater Toronto Area trying to work my way up and deeper into the industry.  That's when Rik Emmett the guitarist for Triumph, one of Canada's internationally acclaimed rock groups, hired me as his guitar technician, stage manager and personal assistant / Guy-Friday.  I also freelanced as a FOH and monitor sound technician, touring extensively across Canada and the USA.  When not on the road, I was the studio manager and in-house sound technician at R & R Studios in Mississauga - a private recording studio I helped Rik Emmett design and build for himself after he left Triumph.

Then I Took A Detour!

I took a hiatus from the "biz" for "few" years.  My alter-ego "Clark Kent business-minded mild-mannered dude" reared his ugly suburban head.  I held corporate positions in marketing, purchasing, supply chain management and BI analytics.  I became Mr Mom - single dad & Dance Dad extraordinaire!  Hahaha! To allow me to focus on my daughters, I left the corporate world and started business consulting in Supply Chain Management and designed BI Analytic dashboards.  For me, it was mind-numbing, dry boring work,  I needed  to get back to my roots, release my creativity and gravitate back into the music and entertainment industry.  I began performing solo acoustically and with my band Däv and Cräsh Monkey Mob.  I also began to freelance as a sound technician for regional acts, festivals and corporate events.

With over 30 years as a professional musician and sound tech, I know and understand the importance of a flawless performance, being in character and staying in character.   Thus my evolution in the world of Voice Over Acting, a natural progression and a secret life long aspiration.  In 2015 I began designing and building my broadcast quality home based studio and officially became a Voice Actor and Voiceover Artist in 2016.

Don't Box Me In

My ageless voice is naturally warm, deep and smooth, which I can change up a tiny bit and add some whiskey raspiness.  Don't try to pigeon hole me into a specific age range though I can switch that up too.  My accent is natural Neutral North American / Midwest accent - no Canadian "eh" but I can turn it on, don't-cha-know, if you wish!

I do a lot of Voice Overs world wide for Explainers, eLearning, Commercials for various usages from Radio and TV, to web content for brand names in various industries and genres.  Recently I'm booking more and more Video Game characters.  My  have been cast as the voice of many various roles from Transformer-type Humanoid Robots to Announcers for Corporate Award Ceremonies, regular Dad, Guy-Next-Door, Hypnotists, late night Lawyers and Doctors selling their wares to Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers, Stone Cold Villains and the Voice of God - yes I am the VOG!.

As long as I can remember, I would recite word for word the commercials for Banks, Cars, McDonalds, Oscar Mayer B-O-L-O-G-N-A, Coke A Cola, almost every kid cereal like Tony The Tiger, Capt'n Crunch, ... just endless stuff.  I have always made up funny silly voices and even more so when I would read with my kids, imitating their favorite cartoon characters for them.  My voice is ageless having been cast in roles from a young adult to a crusty, cranky old man.

My delivery is authentic, believable, trustworthy, confident and on point.  Whatever mood and tone you want, I will deliver your script exactly as you want it to be - authoritative, scared, angry, frightened, perplexed, silly, comedic, serious, monotone, aged and anything in between!

I believe in building relationships with clients to ensure each voiceover is exactly what they're looking for.  I feel it's important to get to know and understand their business, their products and the services they provide as this helps me convey a believable performance.

Please feel free to contact me, click on my Contact Page, fill out the form and then we can discuss your project in detail, I'll do a free sample read of your script and provide you with a quote.

Let me be the voice of your next project!

All the best,

Däv (Dave)
