About Us
WE ALL STARTED AS HOME BREWERS
In a dorm room, in a garage, in a basement, in a kitchen - we all started as Beer Hackers brewing for cheapness, utility, and curiosity. Flying Monkeys’ Founder, Peter Chiodo, learned home brewing as a little boy in Gramp’s Etobicoke basement. Mining his skill as a broke university student in Alabama and even broker grad student in Mississippi, Peter honed his talents and learned to respect the creativity of the world of craft beer.
NORMAL IS WEIRD.
Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys in late 2008, we gave rise to the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario. Since then, we’ve brewed countless unique recipes, packaged over 50 distinctive brews, won over 75 national and international awards, and even sent a beer into space. Onward & Outward, Flying Monkeys!
It definitely does justice to be rated one the must visit places in Barrie. The ambience is quite warm and creative with inspiration in every corner of the place. The people are quite warm and they help you with suggestion on the various craft beers at their store. Great blend of craft beers on tap. They have live band too. All in all a must visit when in Barrie, especially during winters.
The food offering and service here are A+. I especially recommend their home “BBQ sauce” wings. The atmosphere for friendly gatherings is often great too but sometimes the musical performers are too loud to carry on a conversation (which is ok if you’re there for the music). The beer is satisfactory and I think they have enough variety in tap to pretty much please everyone.
LOVE bringing tours to this brewery. Flying Monkeys is a staple in the craft beer world. The food is great and the tours are awesome. Love stopping by this on our Barrie tours
How anyone could give this place anything than 5 stars is beyond me. Great food, great music, great service (Carly and Matt - exceptional!!) and amazing atmosphere!! Loved this place from the moment we walked in!! We will be back and bringing more friends!! You guys rock!!!
The food was so good! Huge portions,great prices. If you love poutine- this is your place! The chicken burger was enough for two people! Also- atmosphere is awesome. Eclectic! Try the seltzer- nice on a hot day
Flying Monkey is a must everytime I'm passing through Barrie. Really good food, great selection of beers, service is very friendly and the vibes are really good as well especially at night with the live music. Side note their ranch sauce is so good.
Excellent service. As a long term resident of Barrie I've meant to come in for a while. The minute I did I was taken care of by multiple staff who offered me samples of their products, who took my order at the beer fridge, and ensured I left with some cool stickers. Very highly recommend this place. The atmosphere is uniquely vibrant and the staff are superb. The beer tends to be strong but who's complaining about that.
The poutine was AMAZING! The vegan nachos made my wife so happy as she can't eat cheese. Their substitute is the best plant based cheese I've ever had. Most breweries with great food have ok beer. The beer here was amazing. Original takes on many styles and no style really their best. Everything was great. Love the option of 5 oz pours so you can taste a few things. The restaurant itself is a strange wonderful mix of love of music, beer, antiques... Just a great atmosphere. Really glad I made time to visit on my Canadian vacation.
Trendy bar with live band on a Friday evening. The food was better than expected! Enjoyed the 18 pc wings platter, grill double burger and a flight of beer. Generous portions of saucy wings and crispy fries, and burger were full of flavour. Quite liked the potato bun. Good vibes in the brewery with the decor and signs. Timely and friendly service. There are indoor and patio seating available. Would return.
I recently visited and had an incredible experience! The draft beer selection is outstanding, with a variety of options that cater to all tastes. Each pint was perfectly chilled and packed with flavor. The food was absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was fresh, tasty, and beautifully presented. The ambiance is amazing. The vibes are relaxed and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a night out with friends or a casual dinner. The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall great atmosphere. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for great beer, fantastic food, and an unforgettable time!
